You can make your website a success and increase your conversion rates using the following methods.

The system you use on your website for navigation should be consistent on every page, and in simple form.

In place of tabs used by sites such as Amazon.com, you can use underlined text to create an easy format that anticipates your customers need.

For example a webdesign for a site selling replacement printer ink. Put yourself in the position of a customer visiting this website; all you’re looking for is the ink that matches your printer. To that end the navigation system should be designed around choosing the brand and model of printer, that way you can easily find the correct type of ink cartridge you need.

Keep your navigation system simple. Some effective and simple navigational items include vertical or horizontal text links, buttons, and tabs.

Your website should be capable of sending a message without reading any text, through its design and feel, though this area is open to interpretation and more of an art than a science.

Though there are no set rules to follow in this area, if you have a site like NBC.com the feel of the website should be NEWS, whereas if you have a site like Disney.com com the feel should be fun. Getting the feel and design of your webstie right can greatly affect conversion rates possibly even tripling them.

The feel of your websites design should mirror its function. When a visitor visits your website you want them to be able to instantly recognize what your site is about based simply on the format and design you’ve created.

Just as adding a tiny amount of the wrong spice can ruin a recipe there are many small flaws that can spoil a professional design.

What follows are some of the more common webdesign mistakes and how you can avoid them to help your conversion rates increase even more.

a) If you use a site stats counter, do not allow it to be viewable by visitors.

The large counters at the bottom of web pages is a tell-tale sign of a very old site.

b) Keep in mind how your site will look when printed. There are a number of people who prefer to print long pages of text and read them from a print out rather than from the screen. Having a ‘printable’ version of the sites pages accommodates such users.

c) Assess whether or not your webdesign is ’scannable.’

Many visitors will not immediately read your site. First they will scan the site to make sure it’s worth reading. You can make your site more ’scannable’ by using bold, colors, underline and headings to emphasize and highlight the main points and subjects of your site.

d) Visitors to your website will first tee the ‘topfold’ of your Homepage before scrolling down. Be sure not to make your header graphics too large or they may take away from the ‘topfold.’ Also, header graphics or company logos that are too large will leave you with less room for the all important text of your site where the major part of your message is contained.

Go out and make your conversion rates skyrocket now, just by applying these webdesign tips.
